Artist Wei Chen Captures Silent Moments in Light and Color
This month's featured exhibit is "The Moments of Silence", an exhibit of painterly photography and oil paintings by award-winning artist, Wei Chen. This artist uses an unusual technique to convey a very sensitive and personal feeling of nostalgia in her work. Wei Chen uses light as paint and the camera as her brush to create surrealistic in-camera images, in contrast to the traditional use of photography for realistic representation. For Wei, photography is a way to connect with the past and the future and record a state of mind. Many of Wei's works are inspired by the beach in Edmonds. She has spent countless evenings on the beach waiting for the right moment—when the elements of ocean and sky afterglow all come together.

“I like to use shadow, shape, and color to convey the essential moods I experience during these inspired moments. When the sky and ocean merge, hidden beauty emerges in the shifting light.”
